Textbooks, on Time, Every Year:

Providing free textbooks is a crucial part of implementing the Right to Education (RTE) Act across the state. It ensures that students receive the learning materials they need every academic year, without interruption.

Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme — which now includes schools under PM Shri — the state supplies free textbooks to every student from Class I to Class VIII studying in Government and Government-aided schools.

What the Scheme Covers, Per Student:

Unit costs are fixed by level, keeping the scheme predictable to plan and budget for.

Who Makes it Happen:

Three bodies carry the scheme from curriculum to classroom.

SCERT, Manipur

The State Council of Educational Research and Training decides the curriculum and syllabus for Classes I to X.

BSEM

The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur oversees the development and printing of textbooks, including the free textbooks funded under Samagra Shiksha and PM Shri.

State Project Office

Samagra Shiksha Manipur ensures free textbooks reach schools across the state, on schedule for the academic year.

The Textbooks Provided Free:

Science (Classes VI–VIII) and Mathematics (Classes I–VIII) are adapted from NCERT textbooks with additional Manipur-specific content; the remaining titles are developed within the state.
