The Holistic Progress Card

A 360-degree report that follows a child's cognitive, affective and psychomotor growth — not just marks — redesigned under guidance from PARAKH, NCERT and SCERT.

Assessment reform

The Holistic Progress Card is built to strengthen the link between home and school. It draws on self-assessment, peer assessment and teacher assessment together, alongside a child's work in project-based learning, quizzes, role play, group work and portfolios — recorded two or three times a year rather than once.

  • State Level Training on Competency-Based Assessment and HPC delivered jointly by Samagra Shiksha and NCERT Manipur for the Foundational, Preparatory and Middle stages.
  • A dip-stick study on HPC feasibility was carried out by SCERT across 10 schools in Imphal West District — 5 rural and 5 urban — to study assessment practice, teacher attitudes and implementation gaps first-hand.
  • Findings from the study now feed directly into how HPC is rolled out and supported across the state.
  • A Capacity-Building Programme for Master Trainers, run with NAC, PARAKH and NCERT, has equipped educators with data-driven, competency-based assessment techniques.

Early learning · Class 1

Vidya Pravesh, in Every Class 1 Classroom:

A three-month, play-based school readiness module reaching every government Class 1 seat in Manipur, led jointly by Samagra Shiksha and SCERT.

The module and its guidelines have been translated into the regional language so the transition into formal schooling feels familiar rather than foreign, and Grade 1 materials have been co-developed to bridge pre-primary experience with the new classroom.

  1. Teacher support materials: A self-learning module (Nawa Sindam), a Joyful Learning Handbook mapping goal-wise competencies, and a Literacy & Numeracy Handbook for foundational skills.
  2. Statewide teacher training: Hands-on training delivered to all 10,609 primary teachers across Manipur on the philosophy and classroom use of Vidya Pravesh.
  3. Tech-enabled monitoring: Monthly progress reports for all three months tracked through the e-Assessment platform, with Zonal Education Officers verifying submissions through photo, video and surprise video calls.

Radio Class, on Air Since 2020

A dramatized curriculum programme carried on All India Radio, Imphal — built for the students a smartphone or a broadband line never reaches.

Reaching beyond the internet

Produced by Samagra Shiksha Manipur, Radio Class turns textbook chapters into 15-minute dramatized episodes broadcast twice a day on AIR's Sangai and Kangla channels — no adult supervision required, because the drama format keeps children listening on its own. The first run covers Science, English, Social Science, Hindi and Manipuri for Classes 6–8; a second run for Classes 3–5 covers English, Environmental Studies and Hindi.

Each episode ends with a question of the day. Winners are drawn by lottery every 14 episodes and paid directly into their bank accounts — first prize ₹500, second ₹300, third ₹200. Episodes missed on air are uploaded to YouTube and the department's Facebook page for anytime listening.

5

core subjects covered in the first run

As many parents in far-off places cannot afford a TV or a smartphone, this medium has been of immense help for their children.

School Twinning & Icebreaking Activities

Pairing schools within the district so students see how learning happens somewhere new, and warming up every session with activities that get them talking before they start debating.

Peer learning

Under School Twinning, students visit a paired school within the district to experience a different classroom environment first-hand. Subject experts lead debates on the syllabus, students split into groups to cover the ground and question each other's presentations, and the facilitator steps in only where needed.

Cultural exchange

Broadens perspective and builds a sense of shared, wider citizenship.

Enhanced learning

Joint projects and shared resources expose students to new teaching styles.

Teacher development

Educators trade best practice and instructional technique across schools.

Sessions open with icebreakers — quick quizzes and structured group discussion — that surface what students already know before the main activity begins. Teachers report the same outcomes each time: more confident individual and group participation, sharper critical thinking, and richer discussion once the ice is broken.

Psychological & Emotional Support: the Mindfulness Project

NEP 2020 frames education as more than academics — it calls for holistic, well-rounded development and for counsellors connected to every school. This project puts three simple techniques directly into students' hands.

Wellbeing

Mindful meditation

Slows racing thoughts and trains attention on the present moment, without judging what comes up.

Progressive muscle relaxation

Tensing and releasing muscle groups in sequence to physically let go of exam-week or pre-test stress.

Loving-kindness meditation

Builds compassion toward oneself and others — useful where friendships carry anger or resentment.

I like doing the exercises. It was fun and enjoyable.
